amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it is certainly not one of the biggest, however what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm. It is full of history, culture and food; this makes for a city that you must visit and will never ever forget. Here are some things that you should do whilst in Amsterdam.

Canals

Amsterdam is well known for the extensive network of canals that run all around the city and contribute to the city’s unique architecture and charm and the largest canal is the Amstel. One of the best things to do is walk around the canals or go on one of the many popular Amsterdam canal cruises. These cruises give you the opportunity to see many of Amsterdam’s sights and are a fun and relaxing way to enjoy your holiday.

It is completely up to you how you go as you can take a cruise, hire your own boat or go on a more romantic cruise with a meal or drink with a loved one.

Ride a bike

Riding a bike is one the best and also cheapest ways to get around Amsterdam, particularly with the amazing bike infrastructure that the Dutch have invested in. The city itself is much too small for cars and most of the middle of the city is completely free of them, this makes for a safer and better riding experience. So why not do as the locals do and hire a bike?

Visit a museum

There are many museums throughout Amsterdam, these range from one of the Van Gogh museum to the more novel Amsterdam Sex Museum. Other good museums to visit are the Anne Frank museum or the Rijksmuseum (national museum of the Netherlands)

Red Light District

The world famous Red Light District is known to the Dutch as De Wallen, but don’t be fooled into thinking that this place is only for those looking to find a girl in a window, there are many bars, cafes and even the oldest building in the city called the Oude Kerk (Old Church). This area is also one of the safest areas in all of Amsterdam due to the police, and security in the area that are hired by the working girls.
